Chris Jericho Needs a Time Out

January 28, 2009

We reported a few days ago that Mickey Rourke may be participating in this years Wrestlemania. Frequent RBM reader and professional wrestler Chris Jericho got wind of this and did not take Rourke’s words lightly. In the above video from Larry King, Jericho calls Rourke out, telling him that he has no respect for him. Rourke handles it like a champ but Jericho keeps poking and poking and poking. My favorite part is at the end when Rourke calls Jericho “son.”

You can’t tell but Rourke is not wearing any pants.

The Wrestler Trailer

November 21, 2008

Vodpod videos no longer available.

more about “The Wrestler Trailer – Trailer Addict“, posted with vodpod

Here’s the first trailer for Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler, a movie that is already being forecasted as a serious Oscar contender. I’m psyched that the Springsteen track is used heavily in the trailer and it’s great how well it fits. Seeing Mickey Rourke cry is really something else. Release date is December 17. Enjoy.

Official plot synopsis after the jump…

New Springsteen Track, The Wrestler

October 22, 2008

The song Springsteen has recorded for the closing credits of Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler has been leaked to the monster-web. The audio is pretty lousy, but follow the jump for the lyrics. As expected considering the plot of the movie, it’s a real heart-breaker:

Randy “Ram” Robinson (Mickey Rourke) is a professional wrestler from the 1980s who is forced to retire after a heart attack threatens to kill him the next time he wrestles. He takes a job at a deli, attempts to form a relationship with an aging stripper (Marisa Tomei) and does his best to reconcile with his estranged daughter (Evan Rachel Wood). However, he is drawn to the prospect of a rematch with his old wrestling nemesis the Ayatollah (Ernest Miller), even though the fight may cost him his life.

Check it the song out HERE.

It’s been slow ’round here today at RBM. I’ll get the Halloween Throwback up today or hit you with a double tomorrow.

Review of The Wrestler

September 10, 2008

Aint It Cool has posted a review of Darren Aronofsky’s low-budget character study The Wrestler, starring Mickey Rourke as The Ram. The movie took the main prize at the Venice Film Festival and I believe (correct me if I’m wrong) did the same at the Toronto International. I’m really looking forward to this; I have a boner for Rourke (Motorcycle Boy Reigns!) and for the new Springsteen song at the end of the movie.

Aronofsky X Springsteen X Apatow

September 2, 2008

Whoa what? Seems that the Boss made it into the movie headlines not once but twice today. Fuck. Yeah.

First off, Bruce has scored an original song for the closing credits of Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler. The film focuses on a man (played by motorcycle boy himself Mickey Rourke) trying to set his life right. Sounds like uncanny Springsteen material to me. According to Aronofsky’s blog:

Bruce Springsteen wrote a beautiful original song for the closing the film. called THE WRESTLER it is a wonderful acoustic piece. makes me choke up every time i hear it. he really captured the spirit of the film and mickey’s character in the piece.

Secondly, Springsteen (who made his last cameo in High Fidelity) is written into the script of Apatow’s seriocomic Funny People. No word yet as to whether it is final or not and sources have said the small part could be played by any aged rock star, but he is pulling for Bruce. So am I.
