Lucasfilm Thinks They’re $o $pecial

It seems that kids would rather play with figures of aliens, spaceships, and droids rather than dead actors and Shia Labeouf. Lucasfilm proudly reports that Star Wars was the highest grossing toy license of 2008, beating out The Dark Knight and their other property, Indiana Jones. Earlier this week, Lucasfilm sent out this to remind everyone that not every Star Wars toy has been bought:

Clone Wars Toys from Hasbro & LEGO Systems, Inc.,
Lightsaber-Style Fun for Wii and Nintendo DS, and the Clone Wars Movie on DVD Highlight the Top Picks from a Galaxy Far, Far Away

SAN FRANCISCO (Nov. 12, 2008) – A new generation of STAR WARS fans have propelled STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS, the breakthrough CG-animated series, to mega-hit status on Cartoon Network and put CLONE WARS products on every kid’s wish list for the 2008 holiday season. STAR WARS has become the year’s No. 1 licensed toy property, according to the NPD Group.

Darth Maul VCD

The formula for making anything adorable is shrink the body, blow up the head and hands, and make it smell like vinyl. Sideshow Collectibles is now taking pre-orders for their Darth Maul vinyl collectible doll, or VCD. We don’t collect dolls, now do we? They also have an R2 VCD coming out at the same time which God is forcing me to buy. I don’t make the rules, folks.

From R2D2 Central, here’s a shot of the most complete set of R2D2 Prototypes ever assembled. Maybe not that cool to you, but for R2-heads (domes?) seeing them all together is dope. The accompanying article is damn informative too.

Oh, I promise to get the Suckadelic interview up this weekend. Shit is hectic at work and I uh, don’t own a home computer.
