Heavy Metal Monday: King Diamond

February 21, 2011

Be afraid…be VERY afraid.  Actually, don’t.  Kim Bendix Petersen may look scary, but he’s just a normal musician who likes to paint his face and act weird.  Not that there’s anything wrong with that.  Hell, I know plenty of people who do the very same thing, though they don’t add hilarious screams in their music. Heavy Metal Monday: ODIN

October 4, 2010

It’s been roughly a week and a half since my fantastic trip to the far away land of Maryland, yet my brain continues to replay all of the awesome events that took place.  One such event came courtesy of my pal Woo.  While I was busy drooling over the enormous amount of rare/out of print horror movies, he stumbled across a few copies of The Decline of Western Civilization Part II:  The Metal Years (a film that has eluded me for quite some time).  This movie is infamous in the metal community, mostly due to the scene with Chris Holmes from W.A.S.P..

One of the bands that gets highlighted in this film is named ODIN, and boy are they entertaining. Read the rest of this entry »

I almost hate to start this way, because I will be hard-pressed to top this, but here it goes.  My first entry is about the totally incredible, fucking metal, sold-out TUSKA FESTIVAL 2010 in Helsinki. Read the rest of this entry »

Heavy Metal Monday 1/26/09

January 26, 2009

Rise and shine all you Week-end Warriors! Empty the puke pail, rub out the dried up eye boogers, and crack open those blood-shot eyes! If you’re having any trouble, I’m sure Mr. Blackie Lawless would be more than happy to lend a metal clad hand.

W.A.S.P. – “I Wanna Be Somebody”

If this video couldn’t blast away your hangover, and make you wanna punch a dork in the face, than you have a serious problem.

Every time I see this video it takes me back to when I was a young, naive, newly formed metal-head, fresh out of high school. Back then, I was safely treading the Earth in my Metallica induced stupor, and suddenly (and without warning) W.A.S.P. came on the radio. Have you ever walked outside on a rather frigid morning, and had the air pounded from your lungs? That’s what happened to me when I Wanna Be Somebody crashed into my brain. The shrill vocals of Blackie Lawless, the unique guitar sound of Chris Holmes, and the driving insanity of drummer Tony Richards sent my hair flying so far back that it hit some slut in the face four cars back. You have to understand, at that time I thought Lars from Metallica was a great drummer, so you can see why I was so blown away.

Today, all must pay tribute to rock god Blackie Lawless. Find some raw meat, track down a prick that deserves to be knocked down a few pegs, and hum that slimy chunk of dead animal right at his/her face. Drive away yelling “I F*CK LIKE A BEAST!” as loud as your unholy lungs will allow, and know that you’re in for one hell of a week.

Rock on, and may your swords be wet, like a young girl in her prime. \m/

Gods Of Garbage — ManOwaR

October 22, 2008

For every growing metal head, finding that one special band has a profound impact on their lives.  It’s a slow process, but when it happens it’s like your ears explode and you’re hearing the world in an entirely new way.  A powerful force sets your heart pounding out of your chest, and a new sense of confidence is bestowed upon you.  It is one of the best feelings in the entire world.  For me, that band was ManOwaR.
