New York Comic Con was quite the experience. The vacation from academia was nice , so much so that my brain forgot it was Monday until it was already Tuesday. Being surrounded by all these people, coming together from the power of comic books, was an amazing feeling, and one that was completely foreign to me, having never gone to one before. It was overwhelming! But then, in one corner of the hall, came the familiar sounds of nerdery being transformed into metal. Powerglove.
It couldn’t have been anyone else. These Boston-based gents aren’t your typical Mario-theme-song-converting musicians. They’re so much more (they do Power Rangers too!). Even when using material from outside sources, these guys are able to keep their distinct sound, a flavor of Dragonforce but without so much reliance on speed, a bit of Symphony X with no need for vocals; so that their music becomes original and distinctive. So cheers, boys!
