Thursday Throwbacks: 1/7/10

Protect the weak, defenseless, helpless, and fight for the general welfare of all.  Basic rules to live by when you’re a chivalrous fuck.  Any man of stout heart should have no trouble abiding by these tenants, yet some fumble constantly.  It’s not their fault; no sir.  Damsels in distress cause more bullshit in the life of a knight than there is bacon on a Wendy’s Baconator. Today’s cartoon will prove that very thing.

Dirk “The Daring” is the greatest knight in King Ethelred’s employ.  There is no good-deed that goes undone, no act of bravery that can’t be bravered, and no scoundrel that can’t be de-scoundrelized.  But when flaky Princess Daphne goes and gets herself into a world of shit, or the evil dragon Cinge starts acting like a douche, only Dirk can get the job done.

Tale of the Enchanted Gift

Sir Timothy’s Quest

The Smithee’s Haunted Armor

The Pool of Youth

The Story of Old Alf

Song of the Wind Chimes

The Girl from Crow’s Wood

Mirror, Mirror

The Snow Witch

The Tale of Dirk’s New Sword

The Legend of the Giant’s Name

The Mist of Wishes

Even by today’s standards, Dragon’s Lair kicks ass.  Never did I think this show would be done in Choose Your Own Adventure style like the game was.  It’s such a damn good original ideal. Too bad they couldn’t animate Daphne like they did in the games.

On a side note, I’d love to find the dude who came up with a dragon having two anteater-like minions.  I want to buy some pot from him.
