Thursday Throwbacks: 9/3/09

Because Vince McMahon has assimilated every professional wrestling organization, stole themes that made said wrestling organizations unique, and can’t go a single month with out advertising a Pay-Per-View event, wrestling fucking blows now.  Things weren’t always like this.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, wrestling was actually fun.  It was like watching good guys fight bad guys in a boxing ring, while wearing multi-colored spandex outfits.  Granted, they didn’t have the same high-flying moves as the steroid warriors of today.  We didn’t care back then.  Seeing fully grown men holler loud funny words was entertaining enough.  But what happened to all of those wonderful wrestlers of the good old days?  As it turns out, most of them turned into cartoon versions of their former selves.  Leading the charge, was none other than The Real American himself, Hulk Hogan.  What we got, as a result of this transformation, was one of the campiest cartoons of all time.  Hulk Hogan’s Rock ‘N’ Wrestling.

Roddy Reforms

Captain Lou’s Crash Diet

Andre’s Giant Problem

The Art of Wrestling

All-Time Champ

Wrestling Roommates

Driving Me Crazy

The Wrestler’s New Clothes

The Wrong Stuff

Cheaters Never Prosper

Muscle Madness

Battle of the Bands

Hulk Hogan’s Rock ‘N’ Wrestling had a life span of about 2 years (September 14, 1985 to June 6, 1987).  My gut tells me that the only reason it lasted that long was due to the popularity of the WWF (the World Wrestling Federation).  I’m also quite amazed that a fresher version of this show hasn’t been created yet.  The only way I’d watch it would be if it was mostly about the ladies.  Let’s face it, cartoon boobs are fantastic.

  1. Brian C. Neri says:

You neglected to mention that the voice of Junkyard Dog was provided by James Avery, AKA Uncle Phil. Brad Garrett from “Everybody Loves Annoying Middle-of-the-road Comedy” also did the voice of Hulk Hogan, not that anyone really cares.
