For a mere $4 Billion bucks, the corporate big-wigs at Disney managed to suck MARVEL Entertainment into their fastly growing amorphous form. This event could have catastrophic repercussions, or could be one of the greatest things to happen to the world since Donald Blake found Mjolnir and became Thor. Fox Business has laid out all the technical gobbledygook:
“Media giant Walt Disney Co. (DIS: 26.03, n.a., n.a.%) announced one of the company’s largest deals on Monday by agreeing to purchase iconic comic-book company Marvel Entertainment (MVL: 48.33, 0, 0%) for about $4 billion in cash and stock.
The deal will give Disney the rights to Marvel’s lucrative universe of more than 5,000 characters, including the likes Spiderman and X-Men, which have enjoyed movie deals worth several hundred million dollars along with a loyal audience of mostly-male comic book readers.
According to the terms of the deal, Disney will pay $30 in cash plus 0.745 of Disney shares per each share of Marvel stock. The deal values Marvel at about $4 billion, or nearly a 30% premium to Friday’s close of trade.”
So what does all of that mean for us? Basically, Disney could either take full controll of MARVEL (destroying everything that has been awesome in life for like thousands of years in the process), or they could give MARVEL creative control like they did with PIXAR. That would be acceptable. I am just getting sick and tired of Disney going Galactus, sucking up every huge entertainment buisness to satisfy it’s hunger pains. If things keep going on like this, eventually everything will have the Disney brand slapped on it. 20th Century Fox will become 20th Century Mouse, and Hollywood will become Disneyverse! SOMEBODY, GET ME THE GHOSTBUSTERS!!! We don’t need a world that’s controlled by a creepy mouse with a helium addiction.
