Chris Hemsworth “Odinson”?

For those who may have seen cinematic psychopath J.J.Abrams’ new film Star Trek, you may recognize this gentleman as daddy to Captain Kirk.  Well it seems his little romp through the cosmos shot a bolt of lightning up his ass, infecting him with the slow metamorphosis that is God-hood.  You see, mister Chris Hemsworth will be playing the roll of Thor in the up and coming film, set to be released sometime in 2011.  From Variety:

“Marvel Studios has chosen its god of Thunder: Australian thesp Chris Hemsworth is in final negotiations to play Thor in the comicbook company’s bigscreen adaptation of the character.

“Marvel has been on the hunt for a thesp with the athleticism and acting chops to pull off one of the more unusual superheroes in the company’s pantheon. Final points of Hemsworth’s deal were still being wrapped up over the weekend.

“A Norse god, Thor develops a protective affinity for humans after his father Odin banishes him to Earth, in order to teach him a lesson in humility. From then on, he’s often seen wielding his massive hammer and fighting alongside the Avengers (comprised of Iron Man, the Hulk and Captain America).

Hemsworth would also play the character in Marvel’s planned “Avengers” team up pic in 2012.”

Being one who has seen Star Trek, I have no problem with master Hemsworth’s acting chops.  I do feel he is far too scrawny to wield the mighty Mjolnir.  If this is something that is set in stone, he had better hit the gym for at least a year before attempting to lift that hammer.  Should he manage to raise that glorious weapon my feelings about this may change.  Untill that feat of epic strength occurs, I will be sucking down the mead, feasting on the flesh of perfectly cooked beasts, and laughing boisterously at each of his failed attempts.  \m/
