Drop Dead Fred is one of those really bizarre movies from my childhood that affected me deeply. Just kidding. The movie was filled with slapstick, dog shit, Phoebe Cates, and a zany British comedian (the worst kind) in a bath robe. It wasn’t great, but it had some genuinely funny moments. Displaying uncanny judgment in where to throw millions of dollars, Univer$al announced it’s going to remake the movie with zany British comedian Russell Brand. You know, the one with douchebag hair and eyeliner.
The 1991 original starred Phoebe Cates as a wallflower who loses her job and husband during the course of a lunch hour. Forced to live back home, she’s reunited with her childhood imaginary friend (Brit actor Rik Mayall), who promises to help but causes more havoc. The first “Fred” was critically drubbed and commercially unsuccessful. But it did achieve a certain cult status and is considered a film that fell short of its full potential. (Source)
