The PSR B1509-58 Pulsar Reaches for the Light

Long ago, pulsar PSR B1509-58 collapsed into a sphere just 12 miles in diameter after running out of fuel. Now it spins around and vomits energy into space. NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory took this photo of PSR which resembles a ghostly hand reaching for neighboring gas cloud RCW 89. This event occurred 17,000 light years away. For those that don’t read books with space travel involved (pushes up glasses) that means this event took place 17,000 years ago, around the time Napoleon marched a herd of velociraptors over the alps to invade the Romans. I majored in history, I know these things.
