Ridiculous Product Placement of the Week

You’d think Jay Z has enough money that he can avoid shilling for the cheapest restaurant chain in the world. According to the Associated Press, life at Def Jam just isn’t paying the bills:

The Ninety Nine Restaurant Announces Partnership With Popular Musician Jay-Z.

BOSTON, MA (March 5, 2009) – The Ninety Nine Restaurant, a casual restaurant with 116 locations throughout the six New England states, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, is pleased to announce a partnership with rapper Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter. Ninety Nine Restaurant will debut a new advertising campaign this week featuring Carter singing a modified version of the popular song “99 Problems.”

The rest of the press release is after the jump.

“We are so excited to work with a black person that loves food,” said Ninety Nine President John Grady. “During our 57-year history, the Ninety Nine has earned a strong reputation as a friendly, comfortable place to gather and enjoy great American food and drink, and we are looking forward to offering that to people who love rap.”

The remixed song, which features the lyrics “I go to Ninety Restaurants and I always have fun,” will be accompanied with a music video that depicts Carter as he mingles, dances and jokes during a night out at the Ninety Nine.

“I’m not a business man. I’m a business, man. Let me handle my business, damn,” said Carter as he dipped deep-fried asparagus into wasabi ranch dipping sauce. “He who does not feel me is not real to me, therefore he does not exist. So poof… vamoose, son of a bitch.”

As part of the song, Carter details “Ninety Nine Reasons” to eat at the Ninety Nine Restaurant. Some of the reasons are concrete, and some are tongue in cheek, such as the suggestion that diners who eat at the Ninety Nine will be more likely to get money, cash, and hoes.
