Oscar Nominations…Really?

The 81st Academy Award nominations have been released and well…I’m surprised about a couple things but not surprised that the Academy has no cojanes. Here’s a look at the major categories:

Best Supporting Actress:
Penelope Cruz, Viola Davis, Marisa Tomei, Raji P Henson, Amy Adams

Best Supporting Actor:
Josh Brolin, Robert Downey Jr, Heath Ledger, Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road), Philip Seymour Hoffman

Best Actress:
Anne Hathaway (Rachel Getting Married), Angelina Jolie (The Changeling), Melissa Leo (Frozen River), Meryl Streep (Doubt), Kate Winslet (The Reader)

Best Actor:
Richard Jenkins, Frank Langella, Sean Penn, Brad Pitt, Mickey Rourke

Best Director:
David Fincher, Ron Howard, Gus Van Sant, Stephen Daldry, Danny Boyle

Best Picture:
Benjamin Button, Frost/Nixon, Milk, The Reader, Slumdog Millionaire

Two Three major snubs in my opinion: The Wrestler for best picture, Christopher Nolan for best director, and Springsteen for his track, “The Wrestler.” Two of the movies in Best Picture are masturbations about historical events/people. It’s a lot more difficult to make a movie about a hard-luck wrestler trying to redeem himself (or even a movie about Batman for that matter) than to wank about shit that actually happened. I’m sure the Oscars are going to be really exciting this y-yaaaaaaaaaawwwwn.
