Since I’ll be going to see THOR on the big screen in a few short hours, there was no other song I could think of to get me pumped enough to slay a few dozen Frost Giants.
By now, most of you know that the jerkface who caused 911 was killed last night. The government would have you believe it was due to a bullet in the brain by a special ops dude. Close. The bullet was actually a 2×4 and the special ops dude was Hacksaw Jim Duggan. HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
No, this isn’t a real game. But if it were, it would be the best game of all time….just as long as Kratos shows up to dish out some pain to those disturbingly cute robots. They seriously need a good roughing up.
I haven’t heard anything about this movie until today. As awesome as this looks, it pains me that they totally ripped off the ranger’s weapon from the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon. Waiting for the hype of new films to die out is kind of my thing. I stress out enough thinking about how much of my gut is sticking out of the bottom of my t-shirt, so spending two hours in a packed theater with hormone riddled high schoolers and overly excited nerds is something I can do without. It’s been a good 10 years since Tim Burton grabbed the world by the scruff and drove it face-first into a steaming pile of monkey spunk that was his remake of the classic Planet of the Apes. Some have forgiven the dreary director, but I for one have not. Sure, his rendition was closer to the story the original that Apes was based off of. That doesn’t give him the right to do what he did. So, as many of my friends are aware, I have been looking forward to the first episode of the new web series, Mortal Kombat: Legacy. First off, I want to say that I have had a total girl-crush on Jeri Ryan for some time (Voyager brought that on, of course), and while I thought that she might be a little too “mature” to be playing a 20-something Sonya Blade, I thought that she filled the role nicely based on the first episode and she’s as beautiful and intense as ever. Michael Jai White fills the role of Jax near perfection. I was ecstatic to see Tahmoh Panikett (Helo in Battlestar Gallactica) as Stryker. I have to say, I wasn’t super impressed with the choice of Kano for an antagonist, and I was equally turned off by Darren Shahlavi’s (Watchmen) acting, but I’m not blaming him, they couldn’t have picked a worse bad guy to start the series. Originally I thought this was just going to be a re-telling of my favorite childhood cartoon. I was bullshit when I thought Lion-O was going to stay looking as a child. But if this is what I think, and it’s taking place well after the T-Cats have crashed on 3rd Earth, I’m going to be one happy Reptilian. This looks amazing.

As you all know, I am quite the fan of the Mortal Kombat series. As the excitement grows for the encroaching release of the game and the new web series directed by Kevin Tancharoen, I find myself with little else on my mind! In fact, I stayed up till 4am last night playing the newly released demo on the PSN with my room mates who have also been obsessed with the MK series for over a decade. The verdict? The only thing that would be more epic than the new Mortal Kombat game would be a viking brandishing a shotgun riding a flying unicorn through space that also craps rainbows (see example below by Sir Mitchell). While at a pizza party my friend was throwing this past Friday night, someone suggested we watch this video. Being half awake and half in the bag, I wasn’t prepared for the laughing fit that came as a result of this gaseous man of the cloth. My face is still sore from that night.
It’s been really difficult for me to write on RBM in a really long time. I’ve had my head elsewhere because of school and shit- but don’t worry, I’ve still been at the Palladium a ridiculous amount. I’ve recently seen a lot of shows, with a lot of bands that I really care about, but for some reason my heart just wasn’t in it. I was taking these experiences for granted. This changed when I went to my third concert of the week. This show reminded me of my roots, of my upbringing into the brothers of metal. It filled a void in my life that had been growing for six years. The Kings of Metal, Manowar, had finally returned to Massachusetts.
Be afraid…be VERY afraid. Actually, don’t. Kim Bendix Petersen may look scary, but he’s just a normal musician who likes to paint his face and act weird. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
