Back in ‘77, “Ender’s Game,” one of the greatest sci-fi examinations of the military mind, was released and won Orson Scott Card the Hugo Award. “Ender’s Game” has stood the test of time, but sadly, its author has become a lunatic, homophobic douchebag (to read about how Card wishes Americans to violently revolt against the government because of gay marriage laws, click here). Now, 31 years later, Card has decided that the world is ready for a direct sequel to Ender. Wait. Direct sequel? Saywhaaa? From SliceOfSciFi:
“Ender in Exile” is the first direct sequel to Orson’s best selling book “Ender’s Game.” After twenty-three long years, “Ender in Exile” answers fans questions about “after battle school…the lost years”
At the close of “Ender’s Game,” Andrew Wiggin — called Ender by everyone — knows that he cannot live on Earth. He has become far more than just a boy who won a game: He is the Savior of Earth, a hero, a military genius whose allegiance is sought by every nation of the newly shattered Earth Hegemony.
He is offered the choice of living under the Hegemon’s control, a pawn in his brother Peter’s political games. Or he can join the colony ships and go out to settle one of the new worlds won in the war. The story of those years on the colony worlds has never been told… until now.
“First direct sequel”? I guess that’s the case if you don’t count ”Speaker of the Dead” and the other three books in the Ender series (“Xenocide,” “Children of the Mind,” and “Ender’s Shadow). Hey Card, are you okay? It’s been 30+ years since you wrote your masterpiece and since then you’ve discovered religion, screen writing, and a passion for hating fruits. When your book tour for “Ender in Exile” comes to Boston, I’m going to have some of my gay friends dress up as characters from the book and gay-dance to Euro-trance on the hood of your car. Yeah, that’ll show you.
